Relief sculpture in history and practice, is debatably the oldest recorded tradition of monumentalizing a subject. The production of a coin acts as a small but powerful form of this, its circulation and regular use imprinting itself on the minds of those who believe in its value in exchange for their labor.

In 2020 between LA and my studio in Hong Kong, I began a series devoted to studying the broader consequences of Imperialism with a process that had taken years to perfect. Bearing witness to mass protest, the silencing of the press, and the detainment of elected officials in a former British colony brought all of these concerns to the forefront.

The works presented are a selection produced from 2018-2021, exhibited between the US and Hong Kong from 2019-2022.
